  • Metro Med Services is a non-profit EMS service, dedicated to providing quality routine transportation services and standby services for area events.

  • In 1986, a group of physicians and businessmen purchased a wheelchair van and ambulance to provide transportation services. Upon the retirement of the last owner, Silver Spring Ambulance and Rescue Association purchased Metro Med Services in 2001.

  • Our dedicated staff has over 325 years of EMS experience and are fully trained in the current EMT standards. Several instructors are on staff to provide CPR, first aid and EMS training to groups and businesses.

  • All of Metro Med Services’ ambulances are fully licensed as a Basic Life Support Ambulances by the PA Department of Health and is authorized by the PA Public Utilities Commission as a medical carrier of patients.

  • Metro Med Services provides evening, overnight, local and long-distance transportation. Most major insurances and credit cards are accepted. Transportation is easily scheduled by calling 717-774-4200. Requests for long distance transports are preferred 24 hours in advance.

  • Discount rates are available for contracted facilities and membership in select local ambulance services.

  • Other services include first aid and EMS at local events, stadiums and arenas.

  • Deciding on what means of transportation best suits a person’s needs can be difficult. Using the following guidelines can help with that decision.

  • A wheelchair transport is appropriate for patients of sound mind and can sit in a chair for 1-2 hours.

  • A littervan transport is for competent patients that are unable to sit due to their medical condition.

  • Ambulance transportation is necessary for patients with an unstable medical condition, requires constant care or attention and may not be unattended at any time. These transports require a PMNC.
