Silver Spring Ambulance is proud to have a number of our volunteers actively pursuing higher education.   These students represent a variety of educational institutions and fields of study.  Many of these students spend a considerable amount of time during their breaks volunteering with us. We would like to take the opportunity to recognize one of our volunteers, Kiersten Weidner, a recent graduate of the physician assistant program at Penn State University.  We received confirmation today that Kiersten is officially a board certified physician assistant.

"After obtaining my EMT-B certification from Penn State University, I ran with [Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association] Company 72 to gain direct patient care experience. My time with Silver Spring Ambulance not only gave me the necessary clinical experience to have a strong application and get int, Physician Assistant (PA) school, but it also gave me a foundation of knowledge that helped me through my didactic and clinical years of school. During PA school, one of the first things you getting a patient history. The comfort I developed...talking with patients as an EMT, greatly impacted the level of care I was able to give my patients, setting me apart from my peers. Finally, during my time at Silver Spring Ambulance, I learned my love of Emergency Medicine and was able to appreciate the level of commitment and care EMS providers gave to their patients, qualities I will carry with me as I start my career as a Physician Assistant in the ER." -Kiersten Weidner, PA-C, EMT-B
