National Volunteer Week was established by President Richard Nixon in 1974.   U.S. presidents since have continued to issue a proclamation during National Volunteer Week. The event has become a nationwide effort promote a community service and to recognize volunteers for their efforts.

The number of volunteer responders has decreased in the past twenty years by over 10% nationwide, while call volume has nearly tripled. While many challenges face volunteer organizations today,  we take great pride in our volunteer providers that continue to answer the call to serve the community.   As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we acknowledge the contributions of our volunteers and encourage others to join our mission to serve our community in times of need.
