AED Registration

What is a Defibrillator?
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are used in sudden cardiac arrest, commonly referred to as a "heart attack", to send an electrical shock across the heart, in an attempt to restore a normal rhythm. While CPR is an important lifesaving skill, some cardiac rhythms cannot be corrected without rapid intervention of an AED. These are truly lifesaving devices.

Where are they located?
This is exactly the question we are attempting to answer. These devices have become readily available in many public places. We would like to gather information on exactly where these devices are located in our community.

How can I learn more?
Many individuals have prepared themselves through certification courses in proper CPR and AED operation. These courses are highly recommended by Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association. For more information on certification courses, visit our training webpage.

How will this data be used?
We need your help to locate every AED within the primary service region of Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association. In turn, we will identify locations that may benefit from an AED unit, ensure that each AED is surrounded by certified lay responders, and provide a reminder for scheduled maintenance on AEDs currently in service. Additionally, Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association plans to expand its community education programs to be a recognized training site, providing quality CPR and AED education.
How do put an AED in service at our place of business?
Contact our training coordinator for more information and a listing of financial assistance options.

Scavenger Hunt 2014!
Earlier this year, Silver Spring Ambulance began an initiative to locate all of the Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) within our primary service area.   In an effort to plot more points on our map, we have launched a community-wide scavenger hunt from now until Sunday, April 20, 2014 (Easter).  Be on the lookout for AED's in public places you frequently visit within the Township.    Take a moment to note some basic information regarding the unit and submit it to our online form for a chance to win prizes!

Check out our map, linked below, to see which AED's have been found and registered.   Fill out the form to register one of your finds!   Participants that find and register the most units will be eligible to win one of our grand prizes!
